Damon Albarn on Tony

One of the most famous and hard working faces in the contemporary musical landscape, Damon Albarn rose to prominence as the frontman of the world bestriding Blur. He has since become known for his seemingly never ending supply of side projects and collaborations, Gorillaz being the most globally renowned. He was recently interviewed in his West London studio about the release of his new album with supergroup The Good, The Bad and The Queen, produced by Tony Visconti.

Describing the role of the producer as “part psychiatrist, part confidante…part music conductor”, Albarn outlines how Tony’s involvement was pivotal to getting the record completed. From around 2m45s.

The finished record, Merrie Land, reunites Albarn, Clash bassist Paul Simonon, Verve guitarist Simon Tong and legendary Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen and has topped critics choice lists for 2018. Well worth adding to your or someone else’s Christmas stocking! Check out the title track below.
